![]() ![]() Keychain Access displays a graph showing the strength of the password. Type the username and then enter the password. In the popup window, enter the Keychain item name or the URL if this is a website account. Click the icon at the top for Create a new Keychain item. Once unlocked, you’ll be able to see your existing passwords and enter new ones like in a third-party password manager. Enter it, and the password for the selected account appears in plain text. You’re prompted to enter your Mac’s password. A popup window displays the attributes for that account, including the website name, the account username, and the URL. To edit a user name or password, double-click a specific entry. For example, to see your most recent saved accounts, click the heading for Date Modified and then click the arrow to display the list with the most recent items at the top. When finished, tap Done ( Figure F).The list will most likely be sorted by name in ascending order, but you can change that by clicking any of the other column headings. Then tap your finger in the User Name or Password field to change either one. At the screen for a website, you can tap on a link to Change Password on Website. ![]() To change your username or password for an account, tap on its entry. To delete an account from Keychain, just swipe it to the left and tap Delete. This screen displays all your saved password accounts. At the Passwords & Accounts screen, select the entry for Website & App Passwords. Go to Settings and tap on Passwords & Accounts. ( Figure E).įinally, you can manage your saved passwords in Keychain to change or delete them. You may also have to tap a sign in button or similar option in the app or site itself. Tap Done to send your credentials to log in. Your username and password are then automatically populated. A field should appear above the keyboard with the lock icon on the right and the name of the app or site in the center. Tap the field for your username or your password. Now, open one of the apps or sites for which you saved your password to Keychain. Then check the box for Keychain ( Figure D). On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, click iCloud. On a Mac with macOS Catalina, click Apple ID, and then select iCloud in the sidebar. To activate Keychain on a Mac, click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences. To set up Keychain syncing on another iOS or iPadOS device, follow the same steps by turning on the Keychain switch through Settings. Repeat this process for other secure apps as well as websites for which you have an account ( Figure C). After you sign in with your username and password, a prompt should pop up asking if you would like to save this password in your iCloud Keychain to use with apps and websites on all your devices. Now, open one of your password-protected apps. Now click the Install Extension button next to where it says With Microsoft Edge or With Google Chrome in the Passwords section of the iCloud for Windows app. Make sure the entry for AutoFill Passwords is turned on ( Figure B). In the iCloud for Windows preference pane that appears, check the Passwords box to begin syncing existing iCloud Keychain passwords. Next, navigate back to the main Settings screen and then tap the option for Passwords & Accounts. At the iCloud screen, tap the setting for Keychain and then turn on its switch ( Figure A). Tap your name at the top of the screen and then select iCloud. To enable Keychain on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings. Your credentials are stored and synced in an encrypted format through iCloud, so you can use the same ones across an iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Through Keychain, you can save passwords for websites and apps and then retrieve them when you need to sign back into those sites and apps.
